Poetry of Utility: The Lordship Barn and its Contents
An exhibition by David Leviatin, craftsman scholar was a location on the Chelmsford Art Trail. CADE is currently hosting David as part of their on-going collaboration with Artists and Designers. The exhibition, Poetry of Utility: The Lordship Barn and its Contents was open on the 12th and 19th September 2009 with David Leviatin there to welcome and interpret the barn and its contents.
Built in the 1440s, The Lordship Barn at Writtle College is a magnificent example of vernacular English timber frame construction. Designed specifically for agricultural purposes, today the structure can be seen in an entirely different light. Its scale and geometry, breathtaking examples of creativity, inspire us to reconsider and re-imagine traditional definitions of purpose and value.
In addition to presenting the barn itself as a work of creative expression, David Leviatin, is exhibiting several pieces that will seek to challenge our perceptions of art, craft and construction.
