Summer 2003 - Artist/consultant Tim Ward appointed to undertake a feasibility study into the development of a Centre for Arts and Design in the Environment.
Summer 2003 - Collaborative research project funded by the College takes place between Mark Winwood, photographer and a member of design staff working with students to explore the meaning of space and community.
Spring 2003 - Marie-Claude Quignon, Artist in Residence, part of an exchange programme between Essex and Picardy, France, supported by Essex County Council. A community artwork is created of words acting as a summary of the experience of studying or working at the College and inscribed onto a glasshouse.
Spring 2003 - Member of staff lectures at the University of British Columbia, Canada, on Writtle College’s experience of introducing the arts into a science-based institution.
Spring 2003 - Member of staff lectures at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College, Canada, on the issues of placing arts in the landscape.
Spring 2003 - Willow maze is created by Deb Hart working with local school children in preparation for the second Groundbreakers event.
Winter 2002 - Writtle technical staff, students and willow artist Deb Hart create ‘Woven into Regeneration’, a project which combined willow weaving, environmental art and horticultural techniques in the regeneration of a yew hedge.

Summer 2002 - Staff join a steering group of Essex County Council to investigate the feasibility of creating a garden as an artistic statement of the Chinese cultural and commercial links within the county.
Summer 2002 - The Ground Breakers Event, at Writtle College, uses a range of artists to promote the land based industries.
Summer 2002 - Dissertation student, Anita Fenton, completing a collaborative research project with Chelmsford Town Centre Manager and retailers on the placement of sculpture within an urban setting.
Spring 2002 - Major sculpture donated to Writtle College by the Hannah Peschar Sculpture Gallery, Surrey, in recognition of our connections with the gallery and work with students to develop a greater awareness of sculpture.

Summer 2001 - Member of staff undertakes a collaborative piece of work with an artist to produce an ice sculpture for Scottish Heritage.
Spring 2001 - Arts Symposium ‘Sculpting the Landscape with Soil’ at Writtle College, attended by over 160 delegates from a range of professions.

Spring 2000 - Essex County Council provide a £1,000 Arts Award to support The Year of the Artist venture at Writtle College.
Winter 2000 - Application approved, £5,000 award, for The Year of the Artist.

Summer 1999 - Landscape construction staff produce The Chair, a sculpture cum seat in the College grounds.
Summer 1999 - BSc Landscape and Garden Design Dissertation by Esther Rowland, An investigation into why sculptures are being placed in the rural landscape.
Spring and Summer 1999 - Staff involved in the Wider View Project, based at Wysing Arts, Cambridge, funded by the Arts Council and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, investigating the relationship between science and the arts. Resulted in a three month exhibition and a publication.
Spring 1999 - Series of weekend short courses, developed with the Royal Horticultural Society and Stephanie Bunn, on willow structures.
Spring 1999 - Member of staff is invited to give a paper at the HortEast Conference, Nova Scotia, Canada on ‘Art in the Landscape’.
