Spaced Out provided an opportunity to work with Land Artist Jim Buchanan to create a temporary performance space within the Writtle campus. With the help of a range of academic and technical staff, students participated in studio sessions which explored spatial design ideas including notions of shelter, enclosure and containment relative to a performance space.
They developed skills in traditional and digital media including 2D drawing and 3D model making. Students’ ideas were captured in workbooks leading to a master plan for the site. The performance space was then constructed by the students culminating in a celebratory musical performance within a designed landscape of their making.
