Exhibitions
CADE curates exhibitions with the intention of providing a stimulating environment that causes all those involved in the College’s varied activities to see their surroundings and work in a new way. Both indoor and outdoor environments have the potential to be spaces in which to exhibit the work of visiting creative professionals and the outcome of student’s studies.
Many areas within the built environment of Writtle College have the potential to be gallery space. Corridors, hallways and other unexpected places offer a chance to happen across art and design work. A newly dedicated gallery space has been established at the heart of the main teaching and administration building where artists and designers are offered an opportunity to show their work to the range of disciplines that study, work and research at the College. In addition, students are given the ability to appreciate the range of skills needed to communicate ideas through the curatorial process.
Using the College landscape for both the inspiration and setting of artworks is an important aspect of CADE’s work. The campus provides a diverse canvas on which artwork can be both displayed and integrated, with decorative gardens, parkland and the rural agricultural landscape. All of these have different characteristics and have been used by visiting artists and students to show their responses to place.
