CADE worked in collaboration with Maldon and South Chelmsford Primary Care Trust at St Peter’s Hospital in a project inspired by the Healthy Living Initiative. As part of the module ‘Landscapes, Gardens and the Arts’ students studying Horticulture and Landscape and Garden Design courses gained an appreciation of how the health service is beginning to take a proactive interest in the green space that surrounds hospitals and the health benefits these can bring. During an afternoon in May the students created environmental artworks using found materials and inspiration from the grounds of St Peter’s Hospital. These temporary installations in the landscape were a means by which patients, staff and visitors might appreciate their surroundings in new ways. Students were happy to talk to those interested and explain what was happening, they were even interviewed for a film about the Healthy Living Initiative.
