Mark Winwood
‘collaborative action research’, 2003
Mark Winwood, a professional photographer came to Writtle College in 2003 to participate in classroom-based collaborative action research with a design lecturer.
Mark worked closely with the lecturer to consider how landscape and garden design students might better understand the concepts of ‘space’ and ‘community’ through the use of photographic media. Students photographed the College campus exploring social and ecological phenomena and used the images to help explain their ideas. Verbal and non-verbal interactions between Mark and the students were analysed by the lecturer to consider whether there was increased learning potential both from using pictorial imagery in the classroom and from working with non teaching professionals. The research was supported and funded by Writtle’s Learning and Teaching Fund.
