The CORE is a development of an old fruit farm within the Writtle College campus adjacent to a recently created reservoir. The sustainable regeneration of this agricultural building into arts and design studio spaces that will be used to grow ideas and provide opportunities for collaboration. This development will have a role in fostering the creative industries in the eastern region.
CADE has been working with Essex County Council along with professional artists and designers on strategic plans for studio provision following the EEDA report on the Creative Industries. The conference ‘Space to Work’ identified the need for greater provision of studio spaces in Essex, especially for recently qualified artists. The creation of The CORE at Writtle College will accommodate over twenty artists and designers providing the associated networking and professional support.
CADE believes that innovation lies at the boundaries where disciplines meet. The CORE aims to foster the businesses of recent graduates of art and design in an atmosphere where ideas can flourish and be shared allowing new ways of exploring the environment.
